Putting Public Health at the Center of Conversations

Issue

Misinformation and political noise have challenged how people see public health, reducing the full picture (including everyday safety, assess, and wellbeing) into a single topic (such as vaccines).

Insight

According to the Pew Research Center, about 53% of Americans get their news from social media.

Audiences are forming their understanding of public health through social media now, not through institutional channel or traditional news sources. Whoever is showing up consistently and clearly gets to shape the definition of public health.

Idea

The Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health should own the conversation by sharing what "Public Health Is."

Create social media posts to educate audiences with clear messaging that is grounded in the culture and everyday life of the Gulf South.
